i see the on line tool
i want a better one
that is my habit
but the better one is slow to develop
and there are ways in which
the one
is good
even better
pushing
blogger
not caring
not caring about results
only about some attempt at quality
figuring out how to connect things
within the limit of
a scroll of posts
still
there are issues
building our own on line tools would
if we could do it
circumvent the limitations of
using someone else's
beautiful thing
it's pie in the sky
a pipe dream
but
what would it take?
the tool needs to be on line because
part of its purpose is to publish
part of its purpose is remote storage
part of its purpose is remote access
therefore
how do you put a tool on line
(also, for some reason i'm closer to knowing how
to put a tool on line than i am to knowing how
to put a tool (i built myself) on my laptop)
in web hosting
(first, you set up a web hosting account
then you log on
using a browser)
there's a file manager
you have your own root
and
logged on
you can put files in it
and you can also create
folders
and put files in them
what is social media
it is not socializing with others
that does not, in fact, define it
it's a byproduct
what social media really is is socializing with computers
and computers socializing with us
in other words
it's casual conversation between computers and people
(where coding is formal conversation)
it's still kind of form
in fact
the computer uses forms
to converse with you
asking you
"what would you like to do"
and you answer
i would like to put this image on the web
and i would like to put a very small version of it on this page
at this location
and i would like an action to be associated with that small version
...
so, a form
when you fill it out
and press the appropriate button
send some kind of request
to some file
on the web
and building social media
in this sense
means putting that file on the web
what is the nature of the request that the form sends?
that's true
but what is the nature of that file
i sends it to?
i have sort of given up, for now
on the idea of putting very small versions of images
on pages
i have gotten sort of comfortable with this
creating a scroll of somewhat larger images
(that do expand when clicked)
but there are still "other"
things
like
when i scroll through
i don't want to be interupted
in fact, i don't want to click anything
and i know, sort of, how to set that up
but i do need to know
what's in that file
how the image gets on the web
how the request to do that is formulated
and there's also this:
it's true the blog is a place to publish
but it's also a place to store stuff
except, now everyone can see that stuff
copyrighted material belonging to other people
which i'm supposed to be allowed to store
but not publish
