i wrote about this earlier, and i'm going to write about it again. i want an operating system that operates as follows: when i turn on my computer for the very first time i am offered a blank screen which represents space. this is not some arbitrary dimensionless space, it is a space defined by the screen ... and something called the viewer's eye. and then i can say "computer, put a pink cube a million miles away where i'll see it somewhere in the top left area of the screen, and make it big enough that it will appear as an image about a quarter inch across." i can say "computer, how big is that cube?" a million miles is not that far. it probably will be closer to the size of a planet than a star. other matters

more? i would be quite content with, say, a battery brick, with, say, a two foot cable, or a five foot cable, very heavy, and it would sit on the table next to my other devices, and i could plug them in.
batteries are a huge problem. i mean god love them, they're the most fantastic thing. it's the way we use them that's all screwed up. i mean, is it true, the way i for some reason think it is, that if you only drain a battery 10% you can recharge it kind of an infinity of times? then frequency of use seems to be an issue ... sometimes a maintenance charge keeps the battery in good condition even when it's unused for long periods? or does it need to cycle? how does all that work? what if a batter ... let's say it starts out fully charged ... what if it then sits on a shelf for some months ... or years. will it still take a charge? i saw battery conditioners that looked really good, but kind of scary. eneloup might be the answer, but what do i need with aas any longer. oh my gosh, you've got to see this
